25 MORE things you might not know about me:

It has been a year since this went around on Facebook the first time(my first 25 are below), and although a few people really didn’t like it, I think a lot of people really enjoyed it. I thought I'd do another 25:

1. My biggest pet peeve is people camping in the left lane of a multi lane road! It symbolizes in many ways what is wrong with drivers and the larger society in this country...However, the biggest thing that makes me very angry is texting while driving. I’m not sure what the hell could be so important that you would risk both my life and many others to do this. I am pretty convinced that this will be what gets me killed one day.
2. I wish I didn't, but I really liked the movie Transformers! However, one of my favorite movies is Crash.
3. My anger is INVERSELY proportional to the gravity of the situation.
If it is very important, I'll chew on it a while and slowly get angry. If it
isn't very important, I'll anger quickly.
4. I'm not in any way a fireman or wannabe, but I've run into a burning
building on two occasions. Three times in one incident.
5. One of the most fun and challenging things I've done was flying
helicopters.
6. I've learned a lot in my short 44 years, but the biggest thing is I
don't know crap! I sure wish sometimes other people could figure that out
too...
7. Another thing I've learned is no one can make you feel unhappy or
angry. How you react is completely up to you. Although situations occur
outside of your control, YOU can control your reactions.
8. I was, for a short time (a month), wrongly diagnosed with cancer.
This allowed me to look at my life from a very different perspective.
Thankfully, I found I had no regrets and really would do it the same again.
It is a very powerful discovery to know that you really have been living a
good and balanced life!
9. I'm in a relationship unlike anything I've known in my adult life. I
really didn't know it could be like this! Yea it’s “Hollywood” type good!
10. My closest friends are all over the country, thanks to an internet
group of motorcycle riders that meet everywhere (www.bmwsporttouring.com) and cell phones that eliminated such a thing as long distance phone calls.
11. Although I initially scoffed at Facebook, it has been a wonderful
experience and allowed me to find folks that I've thought about often, but
lost touch with many years ago. It's nice to be able to catch up and find
some great "old" friends!
12. I think life is full of choices. Many people really don't think they
have a choice when they do. You can truly decide how you will react to
things, and can actually DECIDE to be happy or unhappy. (see number 7)
13. Although I'm pretty sporty on a motorcycle, I'm a much better driver
than rider (from a performance/ability perspective.)
14. I once bench pressed 300 lbs. I don’t’ know if I could do 10 now!
15. I absolutely love Formula 1 auto racing. I like road racing so I
tend to enjoy most European and Australian racing. (left and right turns with
hills, for you NASCAR fans.)
16. I also really enjoy MotoGP, (the Formula 1 of motorcycles) although
at many tracks the last few years, the 250 Grand Prix was MUCH more
exciting.
17. I have now been to all 50 states and ridden my motorcycle in 49. I’ve seen some amazing country and met some neat people.
18. I am convinced that this country is doomed. No matter which side is right, the inability to compromise and the even BIGGER inability to break away from lobbyists/special interests and do the right thing will be the death of the U.S. as we, and especially our parents, knew it. Washington D.C. is paralyzed and I am now convinced the only thing they can do is pass things that help large corporations and can no longer help Joe Regular Guy in any functional way whatsoever.
19. After 21 years, I’m finally getting to enjoy ( a little bit) my flight benefits. We went to The Netherlands for a weekend and are planning on traveling a lot more in the future.
20. Thanks to the internet and all the riding I’ve done, I have met people from all over the world and it has been amazing. I still got a lot more folks to meet and can’t wait!
21. If I had to become a vegetarian, I might just go completely nuts. Not that I have any issue with it, I just love meat that much!
22. I often wonder if TV and computers are the greatest blessing or worst curse man has seen… Can they be both?
23. I don’t know if it is age, or working graveyard shift, but I am now fully infected with CRS Syndrome. I still remember a lot of stuff from “back when” but can’t seem to retain much of what happened last month no matter how important I think it is…
24. I used to live in a warehouse (for 5 years) and I’d do it again tomorrow.
25. I hope that anyone who reads this will be inspired to do something like this list.

For Valentine's Day this year we decided to go to the horse races. I had already planned for the day to be special, but adding the horse racing fans to my plan was the icing on the cake!

Working with the wonderful marketing manager at Golden Gate Fields Racetrack (who turned out to be a true jewel of a lady!) I set up my plan.

It was an absolutely perfect day as the fog burned off San Francisco Bay:

First, a little music:

Then I softened her up with a puppy...(NO one can resist a puppy!) He's not our puppy however.

The plan was at the end of the third race of the day my proposal was to be posted on the scoreboard screen and the announcer would ask Jacqueline to please direct her attention to the scoreboard. When she turned back around I would ask her to marry me. So we had a couple of races to watch while I tried to contain my excitement. Now this wasn't very hard for me, of course, since I'm always so calm! rofl

So I busied myself trying to take some pictures of the action:

Love was in the air everywhere on this Valentine's Day!

So the only wager I made all day was in the third race! I had to put money on that horse!!!

As planned at the end of the third race, I had dragged Jacqueline up to the winners circle and when the announcer called her name I pointed to the board.

The crowd began to fall silent as everyone tried to find THE "Jacqueline"

When she turned back to me, she found me on my knee with the ring in my hand. The crowd became silent as they waited for the answer.

Jacqueline was completely in shock and said...

"That's not me!!!"

"Yes it is! Will you marry me?"

"That's not me!!!"

"Yes it is! Will you marry me?"

"That's not me!!!"

"Yes it is! Look in my hand!!!"

The crowd became almost completely silent as I began to sweat and even doubt my strategy: "Now I've got thousands of people watching: What if she isn't ready?" ran through my mind.

"That's not me!!!"

"Yes it is! Will you marry me?"

YES!!! came the answer after about the longest 30 seconds I've ever experienced!!!

I stood up and looked into the stands and nodded my head in an exaggerated yes and threw my fists into the air! And as they say in the movies: The crowd went WILD!" It was pretty neat having everyone cheer and celebrate my joy!

The track took some official pictures, and I'll post them when I get them... For now, here is a reenactment photo taken just a few seconds after the proposal:

Quite an excellent Valentine's day for us!

About Me

My photo
I'm a displaced Georgia boy living in Northern California for the last 21 years. I'm an avid motorcycle rider and have even ridden across the USA every year since 2004. In December of 2006 I rode from ocean to ocean in 44.5 hours. No time to stop and smell the roses on that trip! I'm an airline mechanic, but for 3 1/2 years was a Union Officer until the expiration of my term in Feb. 2007. I enjoy most outdoor activities, and like to go to remote places to camp and “get away.” I love to tinker around with mechanical things and always have an ongoing project in the garage or on a bike.
